An Afternoon on the Lampasas Sub 2/2/2012

I got off early this day and went track side for a bit.  I heard that there were a few westbounds out of Temple as they had MOW working the line during the earlier part of the day.

I saw a westbound stack train crossing Fort Hood Street as I headed toward the main.  I followed it to Cove but couldnt get ahead of it due to traffic so i made it to Kempner.  I ended up with this shot.

LAst car clears ESS Kempner and heads toward Cali.

Thirty Minutes later,  at Cove, a wb empty ore train comes past mp 255 on its way west.
BNSF 6223 west powers on by.
view of the signal at mp254.  this part of the line has newer tri color signals while from belton to just east of here have the searchlights.
The last train of the day i saw was wb empty coal train with BNSF 6349 west.  Seen here passing Cove at full throttle.

Well, that wraps it up for this episode.  thanks for looking.

Last railfan trip for 2012---Temple to Hearne and back 11 Feb 2012

Well, being this will be my last time to railfan until I return next year, I headed to see more than just temple.  So I rallied the crew together and we headed out around 9am.  Didnt see anything on Lampasas sub.  I got to Temple and met up with JR Leal.  We caught the job that switches the Temple and Central Texas.
Crew lining the switch from the T&TC.

ATSF 1771 with the Santa part reflected in the little puddle.
After this shot, I talked with JR for a bit until we heard the horn of the train crossing industrial blvd.  We made our way to the I35 overpasss.

Seen arriving into the yard.
Friendly wave to us as he enters the yard.

A little while later I hear the DS24 give a TW to BNSF 7386 west from ctc Gober to ESS Nolanville to meet 2 ebs.  I set up at the 1st st cross overs for these shots.

After he passed, I started heading east toward milano.  I phoned my friend to see if anything was coming from the south and he said only 4-5 were coming.  I got to buckholtz and scoped around town.  Just after I got off the phone, I saw a light for a NB.  I didnt have time to set up in town so i headed north to the intermediate signal just north of town.  To my suprise, KCS Retrobelle 4784 was leading train H-EagTul with a BNSF ace 2nd in consist.

Train was fairly long, with a long string of new 2 bay hoppers from mexico.
After he passes, I again attempted to go back to town.  No sooner do i spot the siding signals and here comes a nb Q train running 2 blocks behind the tulsa bound train.
I scoped a different spot and found this.  I heard a interesting story about this bridge from my friend.
BNSF 7277 NB crossing over SH 190/36
After this, I headed back to town as I wanted another shot of this train.
I made it to the xing just south of the fuel pad at Knowd for this shot.

rear locomotive is a Es44c4.  I wonder if someone is hiding in the nose of it.
Yellow over Red.
After he cleared, I headed to satisfy the tummys of me and my crew.  After leaving the drivethru, I headed back to the 1st st crossovers.  I heard a NB get signal indication for fort worth sub.  He crossed from m2-1 and headed north.

A few minutes later, BNSF 4099 is seen from 8th street.  He was setting out bad order cars.
I waited for a little bit and soon I heard amtrak 22 coming so i set up the video camera and still shot for the run by.
After Amtrak, I again started east back toward milano.  I got as far as rogers and I spotted a NB mty coal doing track speed.  so i turned around and set up at CP2080 and got this
BNSF 9818 and another exec mac flying thru CP2080
a AC44 and ES44AC bring up the rear in DPU mode.
After it passes, that was the last train I saw until I got to Hearne. I did see a NB mty welded rail train in siding at GAuse but didnt photo as sun wasnt in good spot.
I got to hearne and saw a buckoo of activity.  Saw NB manifest holding short of valley jct and a nb coal on Fort Worth Sub at valley jct.  just a ways further i saw a sb grain train off the ennis sub coming southward toward houston.  I went into town.   I had heard that UP 4449 and 8444 were coming thru so I hung around.  I missed 4449 and 8444 as it arrived later in evening.
However, I did catch 2 nbs coming thru interlocker.

After he passed, I heard another train was approaching the crew change point south of the diamond so i went and caught a nb manifest with 2 fxe gevos.
Crew change was rather quick.  Once the new crew was on, I headed back to the crossing for a runby.
While waiting for him to pass, a southbound grain train unexpectedly came by.

UP 5868 ac44accte is incharge of the southbound.

Bigmac is 8229 is 2nd motor as it slams across hearne sub diamond.

I relocated back to my original position for the northbound and got this shot of the dpu.

Finally after 5868 clears, the Up train with FXE finally gets signal to go northbound.
After he cleared the diamond, It was time to head back home.  It was 1657 when he passed.  I saw 4 more northbounds on way back.  2 Z trains, one at valley jct and another at 79 overpass.  Then a nb at gause.  BNSF provided me one more train back at buckholtz.  The H-TplBmt was flying thru town.  I shot it from the Hwy,
Well, thanks for looking.  I hope you enjoyed the page.  I hope to get out around my area in the next week before i depart.  Thanks and let me know how I did
